Bogalusa parents arrested, accused of attempted murder of infant

BOGALUSA, La. (WVUE) - Two Bogalusa parents were arrested Tuesday (Jan. 24) on accusations that they inflicted life-threatening injuries upon their 2-month-old baby, Bogalusa Police said.
The department said the infant’s father Andrew Scott and mother Alexis Bolton each was booked with attempted first-degree murder, two counts of cruelty to a juvenile and two counts of felony domestic abuse battery. The child was airlifted Jan. 14 for emergency treatment at Children’s Hospital New Orleans, for injuries classified as severe and intentionally caused, police said.
“After treatment, the infant was released into the custody of the Department of Children and Family Services, with a prognosis of potential long-term effects,” Bogalusa Police said in a statement.
Investigators said they determined Scott, 30, and Bolton, 24, were the only people home when the infant’s injuries were incurred. The nature of the injuries and the baby’s current condition were not disclosed. Police said the parent claimed to be unsure how the infant was injured.
Police said the couple was charged with the second counts because of injuries sustained by a 3-year-old sibling of the baby, whom investigators said also exhibited injuries deemed consistent with child abuse.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
